Exterior Fixed Fire-Resistant Window

Exterior Fixed Fire-Resistant Window

Exterior Fixed Fire-Resistant Windows are a more suitable, reliable, and worry-free choice. They lack complex moving hardware structures, featuring a completely enclosed and fixed structure, specifically designed for fire separation and daily lighting on building exteriors. They are currently the most commonly used fire protection product in overseas factories, commercial buildings, and high-rise buildings.

In overseas building fire protection projects, many procurement and engineering teams fall into a misconception: they believe that all fire-resistant windows need to be operable and equipped with automatic closing devices. However, in reality, most exterior wall openings for natural light and fire-resistant partitions do not require ventilation.

Product Classification and Fire Resistance Rating

By Opening Method

Fixed (non-operable, no hardware/window closer); Operable (operable, requires temperature control/interlocking closing). Fixed windows are mostly used for exterior walls.

According to thermal insulation performance (GB 16809-2024)

Class A (thermal insulation): Integrity + thermal insulation, Class A ≥ 1.5h, Class B ≥ 1.0h, Class C ≥ 0.5h;

Class C (non-thermal insulation): Integrity only. Class C (single-layer fire-resistant glass) can be used for most exterior walls, but Class A is required if the lower floor has a high fire load, floor-to-ceiling windows, breathing curtain walls, or inadequate insulation.

Materials

Steel (most commonly used, galvanized steel frame + fire-resistant glass), aluminum alloy (exterior windows with a wall thickness ≥ 1.8mm), steel-wood/wood (less commonly used for exterior walls).

Core Installation Process

Opening Treatment and Positioning

Before installation, clean the surrounding dust and loose mortar, and repair any damage. Then, mark the horizontal and vertical control lines to ensure accurate window frame installation.

Window Frame Placement and Temporary Fixing

Place the window frame into the opening and align it with the control lines. Use wooden wedges for temporary fixing. At least two fixing points are required on each side, and the verticality should be checked using a spirit level to ensure horizontal and vertical alignment and consistent height (allowable deviation ≤2mm/m).

Permanent Fixing (Critical Step)
Drill holes at the four corners of the window frame and the middle of the frame edge, and insert expansion bolts. The standard requires that the spacing between fixing points not exceed 600mm. After tightening the bolts, 2-3 threads should remain exposed.
Gap Filling and Fireproof Sealing
A 5-15mm gap is usually left between the window frame and the wall. When the gap is >15mm, fireproof rock wool must be filled in layers; when <5mm, fireproof sealant can be applied directly. The filling depth is generally required to be ≥50mm, with approximately 5mm left from the edge of the window frame for subsequent sealant application.
Glass Installation and Glazing Strip Fixing
When installing fireproof glass, a uniform gap (usually 3-5mm) should be left around the perimeter, and the gap should be filled with fireproof cotton or fireproof adhesive strips. After positioning, secure it firmly with fire-resistant strips, and finally apply fire-resistant sealant to the outer edge, ensuring the sealant joint is straight and even.

For export building projects, the core value of fire protection products is always compliance, stability, and durability. Exterior fixed fire-resistant windows eliminate unnecessary opening structures, focusing on core fire resistance, smoke isolation, and sealing performance. Their simple and reliable structure reduces potential malfunctions, lowers overall project costs, and reduces post-construction maintenance pressure. Whether for large-scale industrial projects or high-standard commercial exterior wall projects, it is a versatile, reliable, and high-quality fire protection product.
